THETA is the native “layer-1” and governance token of the Theta Network. TFUEL serves as the operational token (i.e., "gas") of the Theta Network.
Theta Network is a decentralized peer-to-peer video delivery and streaming network powered by users. Running on its own blockchain, Theta provides a wide range of solutions to the different challenges of traditional streaming. Theta’s services rely on a broad set of users who volunteer their spare bandwidth and computing resources to run the Theta platform in exchange for TFUEL coin rewards.
Designed by Theta Labs, and backed by a number of major corporations including Sony and Samsung, Theta has partnered on strategic projects to increase awareness. Theta Network’s long term goal is to serve as a decentralized protocol for processing and delivering all types of data, including app updates, and other forms of web content. Last year’s Theta Mainnet 3.0 launch marked an advance towards Theta Network’s long term goal, introducing TFUEL staking and burning through the concept of “Uptime Mining.” The revamped Mainnet permits users to host an “Elite Edge node” by staking TFUEL tokens to earn more TFUEL tokens.
What is THETA Coin (THETA)?
THETA is the native “layer-1” and governance token of the Theta Network. Users can stake THETA to serve as a Validator or Guardian Node to produce new blocks and vote in the protocol's governance processes. THETA is critical for the Theta blockchain to function because it is dependent on its proof-of-stake consensus mechanism to secure the network from malicious actors.
The total supply of the THETA token is 1 billion and no additional tokens can be minted.
What is TFUEL Coin (TFUEL)?
TFUEL is the operational token — or "gas" (similar to Ethereum gas) – of the Theta Network. Transactions and smart contract computations on the Theta blockchain are paid in TFUEL.
